Cooney & Conway Attorney, Megan Fahey Monty, has been elected to the Illinois State Bar Association Assembly to represent the First Judicial District- Cook County. The Assembly, made up of just over 200 lawyer-members, creates policies for the Illinois State Bar Association. The lawyers within the Assembly are elected on a pro-rata basis from the judicial circuits.
Megan was elected to the Assembly on May 7, 2020, and on Friday, June 19, 2020, she attended her first Assembly meeting which was held via Zoom. At that meeting, the Assembly approved an important resolution that will create an association-wide program to further support and promote full equity for all. The resolution includes three specific goals to help the ISBA examine the profession and identify policy and legislative solutions which will serve to correct imbalances and support the achievement of equal justice.
Founded in 1877, the Illinois State Bar Association is the premier legal association in the state of Illinois. As an organization of more than 28,000 members, the Association’s primary focus is to assist Illinois lawyers in the practice of law and to promote improvements in the administration of justice. The Association engages in many important activities on behalf of the profession – among them proposing and shaping legislation, educating the public and supporting the courts and the rule of law.
