Prior to joining Cooney & Conway, LeRoy Martin, III served as an Assistant State’s Attorney at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he worked in the Criminal Appeals Bureau, Child Abuse and Neglect, Juvenile Delinquency Division, Felony Review Unit, Preliminary Hearing Unit, and Felony Trial Division. During his career as a prosecutor, LeRoy tried countless bench trials, litigated contested motions, and researched and wrote numerous appellate briefs related to felony crimes, arguing orally before the Illinois First District Court of Appeals. LeRoy also indicted over a hundred felony cases in grand jury proceedings as well as litigated over fifty contested felony preliminary/probable cause hearings.
LeRoy Martin III received his B.A. from Tennessee State University in 2014 and his J.D. from North Carolina Central University School of Law in 2017. While in law school, LeRoy clerked for the Durham County Public Defender’s Office Criminal Division. LeRoy is admitted to practice law in the State of Illinois and the Northern District of Illinois, and he is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and the Cook County Bar Association.
