Camp LeJeune, Bladder and Kidney Cancer: What You Need to Know

If you lived or worked at Camp Lejeune, a Marine Corps base in North Carolina, between 1953 and 1987, you were likely exposed to toxic drinking water. Although the water increased the risk of many different health conditions, bladder and kidney cancer are the most common. Thanks to a new law, the Honoring Our PACT Act of 2022, those who were exposed to the water at Camp Lejeune and have since been diagnosed with cancer or another qualifying condition may be eligible to file a lawsuit.

Camp Lejeune Water Contamination Lawsuit

Camp Lejeune in North Carolina is the largest Marine Corps Base on the east coast. In operation since 1942, it has been a residence and place of employment for numerous service members, their families, and civilians. Unfortunately, those who lived and worked there between August 1, 1953, and December 31, 1987, may have been exposed to contaminated drinking water, likely increasing their risk for certain forms of cancer, birth defects, and other health conditions. However, thanks to a new law, those who suffered may be entitled to compensation. 

New CDC Report: Increase in Mesothelioma Deaths in Women

The U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released potentially disturbing new data regarding an increase in the number of fatal malignant mesothelioma cases among women. In a report that was released on May 13, 2022, the CDC states that the number of deaths due to mesothelioma in women “significantly increased” from 489 in 1999 to 614 in 2020.
